Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Pedro Reyes-Perez, 30, a citizen of Mexico found living in Independence, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to 20 months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. Reyes-Perez pleaded guilty to this charge on May 2, 2012.

Reyes-Perez was first removed from the United States on July 31, 2002. Following a conviction in Trempealeau County for operating while Intoxicated - 5th offense, Reyes-Perez was again removed from the United States on March 17, 2009. Reyes-Perez returned to the United States without permission and on July 12, 2011, was convicted in Trempealeau County of operating while intoxicated - 6th offense. Judge Crabb directed that the 20-month sentence run consecutively to the two sentences imposed in Trempealeau County.

The charge against Reyes-Perez was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Fillbach Lenzendorf.
